The University of Mysore Online and Distance Education is a public state university situated in Mysuru, Karnataka. It was founded on July 27, 1916, during the rule of the former princely state of Mysore, inspired by the progressive vision of Maharaja His Highness Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV (1884–1940) and supported by the then Diwan, Sir M. Visvesvaraya (1860–1962).
Recognized as the sixth oldest university in India and the first established in Karnataka, the University of Mysore holds a significant place in the country’s educational history. It became the first university in India to receive NAAC accreditation in 2000, earning a prestigious five-star rating. Today, the university offers a range of online undergraduate and postgraduate programs that are approved by UGC-DEB and maintains an A+ grade from NAAC, ensuring high academic standards and credibility.
